Accounting 1

Course Description

This course teaches students how to make money in the business world. Students learn to apply the internationally-recognized Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) while preparing financial statements, payroll records, and tax forms.  Specific topics include receivables, inventories, long-term assets, and current liabilities.


Instructional Philosophy

Students will learn how to work with journals, ledgers, balance sheets, and income and capital statements of a self-owned business.  They will assume the role of an accountant for a small fictional business, completing some of your accounting work on a computer. Lecture and demonstration will be utilized to introduce new concepts while individual practice will ensure understanding of concepts.  The students will acquire basic skills and demonstrate proficiency through daily work, production assignments, and objective and production tests.
